Fault in Our Stars surprises me
I've been bracing myself since this book came out to read it. I love John Green's writing and really wanted to pick it up but it was about a young couple with cancer. It couldn't end well, could it?
This book surprised me, although it retrospect, I'm not sure why. So many of Green's stories balance the heartbreaking with the life affirming. I don't know why I thought this would be a flat out downer. For me, this book is very characteristic of Green's writing. There are wonderful characters, lots of humour and appropriately to the topic, musings on the nature of life and death themselves.
I'm very glad that I finally picked it up because in the end, it's a celebration of life. And in the day to day rush, that's something I want to remember to stop and appreciate.
